Mr. Scearce
If you asked me growing up what I wanted to become I would have told you “a farmer” up to the fourth grade and after that my response would have been “an artist.” As an adult I find myself immersed in both those passions. Growing up in the Tacoma area I then attended Western Washington University where I received my Bachelors of Fine Art and then moved to New York City where I attended Hunter College, C.U.N.Y., earning my Masters. Returning to the Northwest I lived in Seattle in a studio loft in Pioneer Square and started showing my work in group shows. It was there I met my wife Tricia. We got the itch to explore and subsequently lived in Albuquerque, Naples (FL), Tallahassee and Denver. It was in Colorado where our first son, Rainer, was born. Moving back to Tacoma saw the arrival of our son Miles and brought me to the attention of a new school starting up. I feel truly blessed to have become part of the family of MRLH. Not only do I now get to impart my joy of art to my students I am also fortunate in advising the Garden Club, initiating a 6,000 square foot organic vegetable garden on the campus grounds. Listening to the Epistle of James to put faith into action, the ‘Garden of the Twelve Baskets’ is a service project for students giving their time and labor to produce food which is then donated to feeding programs at local churches.
