The cross-country runners followed up last year’s success by raising the bar once again. A year after finishing 1st at last year’s Sea-tac league championships, the girls dominated during the regular season but a season-ending injury to Freshman Anastasia K. forced the girls to represent MRLH as individuals during the post season. After winning the individual league title in 2007 as a freshman, Junior Alexis F. took back the title from Sophomore teammate, BreAnna R. who won in '08. The two gals went on to repeat at the District Championships with Alexis taking 1st place and BreAnna finishing as the runner-up. Both girls were named to the Sea-tac 1st team all league team along with junior teammate Brilynn S. The Lady Hawk runners also were awarded the WIAA Academic State Championship for having the highest combined team GPA in the 1B classification.

The boy’s cross-country team finished in 4th place at the state championships, the highest finish for any MRLH XC team at a state event and improving on their 6th place finish in 08. The Boy’s XC team has finished in the top 8 at the State Championships the last three out of four years. The Hawks earned their berth at state by repeating as both League and District Champions. Six MRLH runners earned spots on Sea-tac all-league teams including Senior Ryan H., Juniors Andrew W., Jake K. sophomores , Noah P. and Freshmen Steven H. and Quinn P. Andrew W. ran to both league and district individual titles and was the 2009 league MVP after finishing in 8th place at the State Championships, the highest individual finish at State for any male runner from MRLH. Coach Syverson was named the Sea-Tac Boys Cross-country Coach of the Year for his team’s accomplishments for the second straight year.
